'Arena' Contemporary Dance Project at Opera de Paris

Arena 2026

Watchout video playback and video equipment setup for 'Arena', a contemporary ballet created for the Opéra National de Paris.

The show used a mix of live cameras and prerecorded footage projected onto 3 elements of the set. The live cameras, following the dancers on stage, used a mix of Teradek Bolt wireless transmitters and Wifi to receive SDI, HDMI and NDI signals, which were converted & distributed to both a live camera switcher and the Watchout media server.

Castor & Pollux Opera Watchout Video Projection

Castor & Pollux Opera Watchout Video Projection

4 hours of 4K video projection for the baroque opera 'Castor & Pollux' at Palais Garnier, Paris.

When the director - Peter Sellars - opted for a minimalist stage design, video designer - Alex MacInnis - came up with a mix of footage with views of urban Los Angeles and images of outer space to illustrate this modern production of baroque opera 'Castor & Pollux'.

Disguise ArtNet Project for Macbeth Underworld

Macbeth Underground Paris 2023

A first for me - a Disguise media-server project with no video outputs! The amazing set for 'Macbeth Underworld', designed by Bruno de Lavenère, featured LED strips embedded into the floor and other on-stage elements, all moving on 4 revolves. The Disguise system was used to map different animated textures onto the LED fixtures using DMX pixel-mapping over ArtNet.

Opera de Paris - Peter Grimes

Opera de Paris Garnier - Peter Grimes

Video projections for Peter Grimes at Opera de Paris Garnier

After Madrid and London, a new production of Benjamin Britten's opera 'Peter Grimes', directed by Deborah Warner, arrived in Paris. I converted the existing project to the in-house Watchout system and adapted the projections to the stage at Garnier. Working with the video designer - Justin Nardella - we iterated on the designs of the video animations for the 6 musical interludes.

Back at Opéra Garnier for a Contemporary Ballet

Opéra de Paris 2022, Øyen

Back at Opéra Garnier, this time for the video projection in Alan Lucien Øyen's latest creation 'Cri de Coeur'.

The Watchout programming was very simple this time because most of the video is live from an on-stage camera. A UHD signal from a Sony Alpha-7 is transmitted using a Teradek wireless system, and masking for the different screen configurations is managed by an AnalogWay Pulse 4K.
